Hi
I'm swing dancer from Australia and I'm coming to LA from the 10th to the 14th of April. Can anyone recommend any places to go swing dancing?
Thanks

The Bal Rendezvous is going on that weekend (It's April 8-11), so you might be able to attend some of the dances. On Sunday the dance is in Newport Beach - about a 45 minute drive from LAX. Prior to that it's in San Diego, which is about a two hour drive from LAX. _________________ See my photography at www.photobits.com |

If you have the opportunity, you should check out the Cicada Club, on Sundays in LA.
http://www.clubcicada.com
There is a dress code and normally it's bring you're own dance partner, but there's always live music, and the atmosphere of the art deco building is amazing. But if you're only in town for 1 Sunday, then head down to Newport Beach for the Balboa Rendezvous Sunday dance, because that's where a lot of dancers will be.
You can also take a day trip to Disneyland! They've had swing dancing in the park every Saturday Night since the park opened. If you were planning on going to the part for the day, you can catch some dancing (depending on the band) in the evening at the "Carnation Plaza" which is in the park, right next to the castle. Check the daily schedule for times.
Other than that, here are the places you want to check out:
Joe's American Bar and Grill in Burbank on Some Mondays, and Tuesdays (Check out Happy Feet Mondays and Balboa Night):
http://www.danceatjoes.com/
Atomic Ballroom on Tuesdays and Fridays (DJ'd Music):
http://www.atomicballroom.com
Stutter's Ball in Orange on Wednesday Nights, with Live Music every week!
http://www.struttersball.com
Lindygroove in Pasadena, every Thursday (DJ'd Music). This is the most attended weekly dance in Southern California (200+ dancers):
http://www.lindygroove.com
And finally, Pasadena Ballroom Dance Assocaition, which has live bands most every Saturday Night:

I hope that helps! _________________

Hi Tim,
See http://lalindyhop.com/ which lists major dances in LA and OC.
And check this forum on Fridays as Mary usually posts "Where to go swing dancing this weekend".
I also recommend the Bal Rendezvous Sunday dance at Balboa Pavilion in Newport: http://www.2plyswing.com/Z_RENDEZVOUS/BR_AA_home.htm. Beautiful venue, old timers, top dancers, great band, and it's only once a year.
